The “Olive” in Sunny + Olive Has a New Meaning
Hi friends of S+O! Amy here 👋🏻 a lil update on what’s been going on in my world!
Our sweet girl finally made her appearance on the morning of Sept 8th! She was born within a whopping 5 hours and decided she was going to make our life extra unique and special!
We knew at our 20 week anatomy scan that Olive would be born with a congenital heart defect that would require surgery around 4-6 months of life. What we didn’t anticipate was that she would be born with a rare genetic condition called CHARGE. Fortunately, she’s on the mild side of the spectrum! Unfortunately, she needs pretty consistent monitoring which means we’ve been spending our maternity leave going to a ton of doctors appointments!
As far as we know, she is deaf in her left ear with mild hearing loss in her right. She has colobomas in both eyes, but we’re still unsure exactly what that means as far as her eyesight goes. We anticipate some kind of impairment. She has the cutest crooked smile and is currently feeding by g-tube due to silent aspirations.
She is doing SO well and seems to be right on track when it comes to milestones, weight gain, and normal baby stuff. We’re hoping to one day be off the g-tube, and that she can absolutely thrive with the help of therapy!
With all this being said, I haven’t made much of an appearance at the shop, and it’s hard to say when I’ll officially be back. I’m still working behind the scenes (sort of lol) and the Olivettes are working so hard to keep the shop going! Truly so grateful for them!
With an open heart surgery coming up, it’s so important we keep Olive healthy and strong so we can minimize any complications! There goes my plan of bringing her into the shop on work days as I don’t want to expose her to any germs as we enter flu and RSV season! I really miss being at work and seeing all of our customers, but I am enjoying getting as many snuggles as possible with my sweet girl!
I hope to be back soon, even if it’s just a day here and there 🤞🏻 I will for sure be working on small business Saturday as it’s one of our busiest days of the year! Make sure to stop in on November 29th and say hey 👋🏻🥰
Send us good vibes and prayers for a healthy babe. I’ll see you soon!
